Ashwagandha Hot Cocoa

Rich cocoa, creamy coconut milk, warming cinnamon, and a touch of vanilla - this easy ashwagandha hot cocoa is a lovely reason to pause and enjoy something warm.

Made with unsweetened coconut milk and ashwagandha, it takes just five minutes to prepare. Lightly sweetened and wonderfully chocolatey, it’s a comforting drink for a quiet moment in your day.

Serves: 1
Preparation time: 5 minutes

Ingredients

  • 250 ml unsweetened coconut milk
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Ashwagandha powder, using the recommended serving for your specific product
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon maple syrup, optional
  • A small pinch of sea salt

Method

  1. Make a paste. Add the cocoa powder, cinnamon, and a splash of coconut milk to a small saucepan. Whisk until smooth.
  2. Warm gently. Add the remaining coconut milk, vanilla, and salt. Heat gently while whisking until hot, without boiling.
  3. Add the ashwagandha. Remove from the heat and stir in the ashwagandha according to your product’s directions.
  4. Finish and enjoy. Add maple syrup if desired. Use a handheld milk frother for a creamy finish, then pour into your favourite mug.

A little moment to slow down

Sometimes, the ritual is the best part: stepping away from the screen, holding a warm mug, and taking a few quiet minutes for yourself.

Ashwagandha is traditionally used in Ayurvedic medicine. Some preparations may support stress management and sleep, although the evidence varies by product and dose.

Please note: Avoid ashwagandha during pregnancy and breastfeeding. If you take medication or have a thyroid, autoimmune, or liver condition, check with your healthcare professional before using it.

Healing Foods:

  • Cocoa: Provides naturally occurring plant compounds called flavanols, along with some fiber and minerals.
  • Coconut milk: Creates a smooth, creamy dairy-free base. Choose an unsweetened version.
  • Cinnamon: Adds warming flavour without extra sugar.
  • Ashwagandha: An herb studied for stress and adrenal support; the preparation, dose, and individual suitability matter.
